He notes that the US DoD wants all of their systems to be quantum-resistant by 2030, and 2035 to be the latest possible date that having any pre-quantum systems will be considered acceptable. To paraphrase his thinking on the matter: We know that the DoD is pouring lots of money into quantum research, and if they’ve already identified solid deadlines in the not-too-far-future then it’s probably worth assuming that they know something about the technology’s timeline that we don’t.
