Ya know, ignoring that empathy is precisely what’s made us successful as a species in the first place.
And they are probably aware of that. The suffering is the point.
More suffering -> more crime and more unrest.
More crime and more unrest -> more they can justify future power grabs, increased surveillance, and use of military power on domestic soil.
That’s what happens when you put people in leadership positions who earnestly believe that empathy is a ‘fundamental weakness’. Ya know, ignoring that empathy is precisely what’s made us successful as a species in the first place.
