I’m loving my Galaxy Tab 9 Ultra. It’s sturdy, can go in the shower (I don’t normally but I wanted to test it), has great multi-window features, has Dex which is also sometimes useful, is snappy, and I can basically sideload whatever I want.

Wait, how? I have zero games installed on my 1TB laptop and still only have like 300GB free.

For me it’s…

• Visual Studio Enterprise (VS Code with a hundred plugins still doesn’t come close)
• SQL Server Management Studio (though with extensions, Azure Data Studio has gotten me pretty damn close)
• Full-featured Office 365 software (Edge web versions are somewhat sufficient, but not quite there)
• Teams with multi-tenant. The desktop Windows app lets me quickly switch between the 6 orgs I need to, unfortunately on Linux I have to have 6 different browser profiles and use the web version which just doesn’t fly.
• More responsive RDP. Unfortunately for server management I’m juggling 3-4 RDP instances daily and I’m not typically allowed to install AnyDesk or VNC or anything. I’ve tried a couple RDP alternatives and there were just all sorts of problems from keyboard issues to rendering issues to general sluggishness.
• There is one weird VPN program a job forces me to run and unfortunately it isn’t available on Linux.

But! All the above said, I run Linux and have a Windows VM. And I also run Windows and have a Linux VM - so it’s almost there for me. If work & clients all ditched Microsoft’s ecosystem, it’d be a lot easier for me to but, unfortunately, they pay my bills.

Absolutely the case for me, I had like 5-6 alts, now I use maybe two.

I have a 2TB SSD and a 1TB SSD. My Windows VM is allocated 100GB, so it really isn’t bad at all. I use VirtualBox and it starts up basically instantly.

I just realized I have an oldish laptop with Windows on it though so I’m thinking maybe I should just remote into that instead…derp

For Visual Studio Enterprise, Adobe PDF editing, native Office apps, SSMS, and RDP thin clients, I use a Windows VM.

But also, I don’t know, in some cases that might be good advice. Since 2020 I’ve changed jobs every 6-10mos and I’m making triple what I made in 2019, so that’s nice.

This reminds me of when USAA would let you enter a longer password on the login screen than was actually possible to set, so if you generated a 14 digit password and pasted it into the password reset, it wasn’t immediately evident that it only took 12. But on login, you could enter all 14 characters and then it’d just say it’s wrong. I’m…90% sure they don’t do that anymore.

Also, KeyBank used to (or maybe still is? I closed my account years ago) not support case sensitive passwords. So whether your caps lock was on or not, or you alternated upper/lower however you wanted, your password still worked. I think they were converting to lowercase on the back end.

Yeah, sorta. Nobody would provide internet to where I live, so I finally convinced a company to trench fiber to my house for me.

Unfortunately I’m paying $500/mo for like 96 months now so they can offset the cost.

Worth it though. My alternative was 512kbps DSL that would have outages daily and I’m a remote software engineer. It just didn’t work.

I had a similar but not really experience with one of my businesses where they messed up and I basically got business gigabit and four TVs and sports for something ridiculously low (business wise) of like $120/mo.

I later needed to add a TV and the rep put me on hold and then came back and said something to the effect of, “Here’s the deal… apparently we messed up your contract so your current price is locked in for 2 years. If you add this, we have to redo it, and it will go up to $450/mo. I would suggest you don’t add a TV.”

So I didn’t. I bought a $12 adapter off Amazon and just split the cable line instead.

Rural Oregon. 1gbps up and down. $600/month. I never go below ~930mbps each way.
