I use Linux for the same reason I wear fuzzy socks and sweaters, because I’m trans.
But the Windows style is 1000x better than the MacOS and most default Linux looks. Desktops are desktops so the eternal march towards making things look more like mobile is stupid. That being said, I like the layout of Zorin even if I hate the rounded edges and lack of clear demarcations. I should be able to glance at your interface and know exactly where each element starts and ends. Maybe that’s me being old though.
It makes more sense for the former unfortunately.
The original theory was that it could have been a pregnant women looking down and that’s what lead to the proportions. The idea was they wouldn’t have been able to see themselves in a river or something. But rivers and puddles, not to mention OTHER pregnant women, were extremely common so it’s less likely.
