Plex@lemmy.ml•Remote access suddenly stopped workingEnglish
1·2 months agoI had this happen to me too. For some reason, my Plex tunnel kept working for a little longer after my ISP enabled CG-NAT. Sometimes you can contact your ISP for a static IP but the solution to this is to use a tunnel of some sort, like a Cloudflare tunnel or Tailscale or a NGINX reverse proxy on a VPS provider like Hetzner or IBM Cloud or AWS Lightsail.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Thermostats compatible with selfhosted Home AssistantEnglish
2·2 months agoThat thermostat should work over WiFi and not use Thread so as long as your network supports Matter, you should be good. If it doesn’t support Matter, you can use the meross_lan integration.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Thermostats compatible with selfhosted Home AssistantEnglish
2·2 months agoI’m currently using a Meross thermostat as it was relatively cheap: https://shop.meross.com/collections/smart-thermostat/products/matter-smart-thermostat-mts300ma
Currently using the meross_lan (https://github.com/krahabb/meross_lan) integration to make it work because my LAN doesn’t support Matter.
I tried to use Shinobi as my PVR for a while but dealt with a lot of usability and stability issues. Switching to Frigate has been much better. Configuration can be a bit difficult but it’s rock solid and really great. Plus the home assistant integration is top notch. I’ve had a lot of luck with Amcrest cameras and also managed to use a cheap Tapo camera within my setup.

Self Hosted - Self-hosting your services.@lemmy.ml•[Question] How does Plex detect local vs remote access
1·10 months agoI don’t know how it impacts the paid feature changes recently but you can add additional “LAN Networks” to Plex in the “Network” tab in the Settings to consider additional IP Ranges as a LAN network. I believe the LAN detection is based on the original subnet of the server where traffic from any other range is treated as WAN access.

Plex@lemmy.ml•I'm running into issues streaming very large uncompressed 4K movies from my M2 Mac Mini to Plex on my AppleTVEnglish
3·2 years agoDo you think you could post a picture of the exact error message? Also you could check the Plex logs through the web app and you should see the exact error and what component caused it. If I had to take a guess, I’d say your uncompressed movie has something that’s causing the server to transcode (TrueHD audio or a forced HDMV subtitle stream) and the transcoding process is failing.
Life, that is. It would just make life a little easier.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•best device for avoiding transcoding?English
4·2 years agoIt’s not that it’s difficult, it’s just that there is less interacting with the TV keyboard if you use an iPhone/mac/whatever. You can login with a password without any issues.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•best device for avoiding transcoding?English
6·2 years agoIf you want to avoid transcoding entirely, a Nvidia Shield is probably your best bet as it supports a few more audio codecs and HDMI passthrough that an Apple TV doesn’t support. That being said, the Nvidia Shield is both more expensive and older than an Apple TV. I would argue that an Apple TV has a better overall experience with third party apps, newer hardware, more up-to-date OS, whereas a Shield works best for Plex/jellyfin.
I bought a Nvidia Shield first to replace a Smart TV and Steam Link and was pretty disappointed with my overall experience. I ended up biting the bullet and getting an Apple TV and the only issue I’ve had is that now TrueHD streams are getting transcoded.
Of course, your experience and desires are probably different so would just suggest looking around for what works best for you.

0·2 years agoWell dang, I guess that “learn about proxmox” line on my to-do list just moved a little higher. For the most part, I’ve enjoyed using ESXi and am sad to see it go.

41·3 years agoFor macOS, there’s a separate application you need to get magnet links to work. I think this is it but am unable to check currently: https://github.com/Lord-Kamina/Deluge-Magnet-Handler
