Humanius@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What advice can you give to a beginner?English6·1 year agoBe sure to make regular backups of your data.
… and using RAID is not a backup.
Could we add holiday logos for the Dutch (and Belgian) holidays of Sinterklaas (December 5th and 6th), and perhaps Kings Day? (April 27th)
If I have some direction on the style I could perhaps Photoshop something together :)
Edit: Carnaval would be fun too, but that one might be tricky because it falls on a different day every year (and is also not consistent between countries, I don’t think…)
Humanius@lemmy.worldto Sync for Lemmy@lemmy.world•Sync for Lemmy (beta) is now live for everyoneEnglish481·2 years agoFirstly, I’m happy to see Sync return.
I made sure to subscribe to help make developing the app financially viable.Secondly… With the Sync beta just going live, I’m already running into my very first bugs.
What would be the appropriate place to report these bugs?Edit: My question has already been answered by OP:
Oh and please note that bugs should be reported in #sync-support-and-bugs in the discord: https://discord.gg/qYWxqva
Considering that you could hypothetically leave personal information in your comments, would those comments not also need to be deleted?
GDPR also allows you to do a data deletion request.
How would one realistically go about testing their backup? Do you need a bunch of empty drives?

Humanius@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is your machine naming scheme?English4·2 years agoAll my devices get named after cities. I try to make it somewhat relevant to the purpose of the machine.
Usually things related to the device (e.g. network shares) get named after neighbourhoods in the respective cities.- Main PC:
SAN-FRANCISCO
, - File server:
SARAJEVO
,- Shares:
VRATNIK
,BISTRIK
,SEDRENIK
,HRASTOVI
,
- Shares:
- Work laptop:
SEATTLE
, - Phone:
BARCELONA
, - Media box:
CANNES
.
My boyfriend names all of his devices after planetary bodies, much like OP.
Thing related to the devices are named after the moons of the respective planet.- Main PC:
SATURN
,- Drives:
ATLAS
,PROMETHEUS
,TITAN
,HYPERION
,JANUS
,
- Drives:
- File server:
JUPITER
,- Shares:
GANYMEDE
,
- Shares:
- Phone:
PLUTO
, - Laptop:
CHARON
.
(He just realised that last one is inconsistent, and is renaming it to
MERCURY
)- Main PC:
My server has also not been liking the heat over the past month
Though in my case it’s because drive 3 is sitting in a slot that is possibly not getting enough airflow. It’s consistently running a bit hotter than the other drives in the system.
I really should get around to moving it to a different slot.
