I started with it on proxmox and ran into the same issues with frigate. Though I also have a separate NAS machine running unraid that happily runs my other containers to play around with. I have enough controlled by HA that it was worth dedicating it to one whole machine to run it in the most supported way by the ha devs.

Yeah wireshark would be my first bet. All you are really looking for is a ntp server that it’s trying to reach on udp port 123. If its not using ntp then it gets waaaay harder as they have rolled time sync into their own Api

Yeah the celeron and pentium models are amazing low power machines to run Home Assistant on. Mine is running half a dozen other docker addons including frigate to do ai object detection (offloading most of the heavy lifting to a Google coral chip plugged into usb)

Paying once for a mobile app doesn’t make much sense for devs, on the desktop they’ll come out with a new version a year or two later that’s an upgrade or full price for the update. On mobile they can’t loose their install base so are stuck supporting customers forever who aren’t bringing in any more revenue. Most app developers make far more per user from ads on the free versions of the app. As much as I hate ads and subscription fees, I feel for the small app developer.

Anyone can be the god of their own instance. Doesn’t mean other instances need to federate and listen to whatever it spits out. I imagine some metric of quality will come for instance admins to decide who to federate with. Hopefully with a mechanism to allow small new instances to join and thrive so it doesn’t devolve into only the big servers trusting each other
