  • This is my opinion exactly. Plus they don’t have a way to upgrade storage without a family or business plan. I just want a google drive alternative for the sake of migrating away from google, not security, though it’s a nice bonus. Right now you can’t increase the storage on the basic plan, you can upgrade to unlimited but it only gets you 500 gb but costs a lot more. If they had a $5/month plan for 2 tb of storage and no other services I’d sign up right now.

  • There are definitely ad supported apps on iOS, they also control the core of all browsers on iOS. Neither Apple or Google really sell data externally, they serve ads to their audience using algorithms trained off vast quantities of user data. Selling the raw data is a bad way to do it because you don’t have control over it after the first sale. Keeping it internal and selling your services is a much more lucrative way to do it if you have a big enough platform. Chromium is google’s way to spy on you online and serve ads, webkit is apple’s. Google allows non chromium browsers on android but apple requires that all iOS browsers are basically just a reskinned safari.

It’s so bad, it feels like using an ipad. Notifications are buggy as hell and you can’t even disable notification center with terminal like you could on x86 macs. I’m keeping an eye on Asahi linux but it seems a little too rough to be daily driveable yet.

Sort of unrelated but the apple support threads are all infuriating because they never answer the question. They embody the “it’s not a bug” motto until it’s clear there is a bug at which point they just say apple must be fixing it soon and to just keep your computer updated.

The gurus normal people trust have this pesky tendency to have advanced degrees and call themselves things like “doctors” and “therapists” as if either is better than being screamed at by a car salesman in a room full of sweaty divorces.

  • This is really only applicable to buying new things on ebay. Last gen electronics are the only thing I buy new on ebay but even then good deals are pretty rare. At this point if you want a good deal you need to go back 2 generations usually. I saved around $800 on my macbook pro by buying a 2021 model NIB on ebay a few months ago. Asahi linux only runs on m1 anyway so that was my prefered processor over m2/3 anyway.

At least with apple, the warranty only starts when the product is activated, so as long as the original plastic wrap is still on it you will get the full factory warranty.

Your lungs can compress to equalize the pressure as you go deeper and expand as you come back up. As long as you start with ambient pressure air in your lungs you won’t have issues.

The problem is breathing against the external pressure, you need gas pressure to help expand your lungs again after you exhale. The regulator keeps the air pressure equal to the external water pressure so breathing feels the same no matter how deep you go. With an open loop system you use air faster with depth because each breath is higher pressure and gets wasted when you exhale.
