It’s possible to simultaneously think there are issues with the Chinese government and U.S. government. You could mention 3 June 1989 I’m China or Epstein files in the U.S.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Why does non-profit Upsolve.org, a free bankruptcy tool for the poor, need facebook analytics in a bankruptcy evaluation tool?
321·3 months agoIf they get any government grants, the grants often require specific data about about who’s using the service and how much they use it.
I don’t know if they get grants, but I know that can be challenge for non-profits.

Technology@beehaw.org•AI hype meets reality as majority of CEOs report no financial returns
8·4 months ago“In fact, rather than worrying that AI might not live up to the hype, the biggest concern among CEOs is whether they are transforming fast enough to keep pace with technological change.”
The title is slightly misleading. CEO’s aren’t thinking AI is a waste of time and money, they’re thinking they aren’t moving to AI fast enough.

2·4 months agoYou can buy a car, but you can’t register it to get a license plate without a driver’s license.
The article notes that a lot of the accidents are from people with suspended drivers licenses, not just drivers without a license.
It also says there was a decline in traffic enforcement by the NYPD.
So, I’d say it becomes a public policy decision on how much time do people want NYPD going after cars with no plates or fake plates, and stopping people with revoked licenses from driving? I don’t think there’s an answer to that, that’s going to make everyone happy.
Ask the Chinese government what happened 3 June 1989.
Corporations: This person will work cheaper than anyone else. Let’s not do the minimal of background checks and just hire them.
Don’t forget that after he shot someone in the face, he made them make a public apology for getting shot in the face.

112·10 months agoIt’s from 2021. The kid did make the fake Nintendo from a box, but he wasn’t given a cease and desist letter, he wasn’t sued by Nintendo, and he also didn’t receive a Nintendo. Nothing else happened.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•The P in HIPAA stands for portability, not privacy
141·10 months agoGeneral public: I’m going to make wild assumptions about something I don’t know anything about, and also spend 0 time verifying if my assumptions are correct.

The first paragraph:
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is an Act passed in 1996 that primarily had the objectives of enabling workers to carry forward healthcare insurance between jobs, prohibiting discrimination against beneficiaries with pre-existing health conditions, and guaranteeing coverage renewability multi-employer health insurance plans.
I remember companies doing this with cloud services.
CEO: Get rid of everything on-prem, the cloud sales person said cloud is cheaper!
First year cloud coats are more than 3 year depreciation of on-prem equipment
CEO: Huh…welp it’s impossible for me to be wrong, so we’re just going to say it was cheaper.
