Against the Storm! It’s a roguelite citybuilder set in an apocalyptic world where you build settlements in a short amount of time to complete objectives and hopefully survive. While it borrows some mechanics from some city builders, I haven’t played anything quite like it’s unique blend yet. Plus the artstyle is pretty reminiscent of Warcraft but prettier.

It’s in early access right now but it’s basically a complete game at this point.

This just reminded me to finish Atelier Rorona… at some point in the future lol

It kind of warms my heart to see people of all ages still gaming. If people are allowed to enjoy other forms of entertainment, gaming should be there as well.

Bannerlord! Been sitting in my library for a while now, finally got the time to play it.

I had the same observations as well! Not sure if it’s just my confirmation bias, but it does seem like reddit feels a lot more toxic right now. I feel like it really is compounded by how relatively welcoming lemmy has been for refugees recently, alongside it still being fresh. I feel like I can be more open here as well, and many others probably do so too.

It might be possible to raise it as an improvement suggestion on the project’s github, something like “allow migration of user accounts to other lemmy instances”. Not sure how much work it’s gonna take or if it’s even possible, but we do have more people willing to pitch in and help now.

Personally, I think it’s less that centralization is a law of the universe and rather, things are cyclical. Atoms smash together to form molecules and amino acids and living organisms, and those organisms also break down eventually into smaller things again.

Likewise, with social networks and social hubs online, we’ve seen the cycle of centralization and decentralization of social networks, from disparate forums to web 2.0 social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit, and now an attempt to decentralize social networks once again. Maybe it will last? Maybe it won’t? But at least we have this space right now, at this moment in time. (Also even subreddits decentralize, e.g. subreddit about topic “x” and subreddit about same topic but named “true x”)

This could very well be the future. Especially considering certain big tech companies (like Meta) are already trying to make their own implementations of ActivityPub. However, people are discussing ways to possibly mitigate this, like multireddits.

I love Amplitude Studios soundtracks (Endless Legend, Endless Space 1&2, Humankind). They’re great background music while thinking about stuff (like at work). Though maybe I just got Pavlov’d into thinking that since they’re strategy games 😅

Also, Persona 4! The soundtrack is so nostalgic and reminds me of my childhood somehow.

This is such a nice mentality to have. Believing in the value of things of your own accord also helps you become resistant to marketing tactics such as planned obsolescence! Instead of being told that something is of no worth anymore and keeping on buying the latest things, you end up appreciating the things you have for what they’re worth, leading to a more sustainable outlook of life and more conscientious consumption.

FTL! This game was probably my first introduction to roguelites back when I was still a wee little lad. Loved the space aesthetic, and the combat system was pretty unique for the time I thought. Runner-up would probably be Noita (roguelite trend here). If we’re including DOS era games, I’d add Centurion: Defender of Rome (predecessor to Total War games) and Sword of the Samurai (Mount and Blade but in Sengoku-era Japan).
