Thank you for the explanation. It switches sometimes by accident and I didn’t know that.
So does the legion go. I don’t understand why there isn’t something built in to fedora to prevent this but I’ve never been able to find a setting for it.
The more you scroll, the more ads they can serve on one page. So if you scroll to the bottom, don’t see the results you want, you’re likely to try to reword what you were searching for which will bring up new results and more ads. When you think about the fact that 4-5 of the first results are ads generally (if not more) and you have to scroll past those to get a result that isn’t an ad, you recognize that they are maximizing time spent looking at ads because that’s what they are selling to their real customers (the ad services for whom they aggregate).
This scenario makes it more likely that you will click on a sponsored result, backtrack, scroll some more, not see what you’re looking for, re-word your search query, click on maybe another sponsored result, backtrack etc.
Part of the problem is that Google now defaults to “All” (web, shopping, news, video, etc) instead of defaulting to Web only and allowing you to select if you want video, or shopping or news etc. That’s a lot of what I see complained about most.
This is first and foremost because Google is an ad aggregation company and they literally want to keep you on the page longer to serve you more ads.
The second problem is that the SEO for Google is so abused at this point that it’s laughable. Search engine optimisation was useful until companies and people started trying to hack it in order to have their results show up before competitors. Because large competitors also have money, it’s no longer enough to just pay to play.
Oh, this wasn’t me saying they don’t suck and aren’t actively getting worse. I just default to trying to be helpful.
I agree with you. Search in general is actively getting worse and worse.
I have found that for certain things like this, if you can find a part number it’s better to use that to get more refined results. It definitely won’t help for everything (clothing, groceries, etc). But it does help for tech things especially.
If you’ve ever signed up to win something (a car, a vacation, a pretty watch, free food for a year), you’ve given them your data and they just add that together with what they can scrape off the internet and sell it to anyone who wants it in a lot of cases.
You almost don’t have a choice when looking for some jobs. Some whole industries won’t even consider you if you don’t have a LinkedIn.
I’ve got a legion go with Bazzite installed and now I’m curious. I’ll boot into windows after I boot into Bazzite and see if there’s a difference. At least then you’ll know if it’s Linux or YouTube.
Edit: So for me (granted I’m not on a steam deck but on steam OS for another handheld), it defaults to 720p but I’m using Firefox in desktop mode, and I have the option to change it to 1080p but only if I use a mouse to have over the video and select settings from the progress bar.
In windows (on the same device) it works just fine, and I can do 1080p premium on Firefox from windows 11. So it may be something stupid like needing to use the track pad, or it may be how you’re using Firefox in steam OS (as an app inside steam or some other way).
Edit edit: Randomly the sound quality is quieter in Bazzite (receiver and speakers set to the same volume level) than in windows, by a significant margin.
I have 4 maybe 5 games that I can’t run on Linux to my satisfaction ATM. We’ll see how that plays out as things develop more, but so far I’m very happy with my decision to run Bazzite.
The crazy thing for me is that I have a little handheld specific for dos games. The problem I run into every time is having to setup computer keyboard bindings for each game to play them using the built-in controller. I really want retroarch or another dos emulator to do profiles for different games and I haven’t seen that yet.
Actually really good. Deckyloader took care of a lot of the stuff I needed for the legion go’s native controller and so on. Only thing that’s bugging me at the moment is for some reason I can’t control or change the RGB for the thumb sticks or power button. The setting isn’t in the controller settings where it should be. But everything else just works, and it’s been great so far.
There was an article not too long ago about how windows 11 was gaining in market share for gamers. But my guess is a lot of them are like me and bought a handheld that can dual boot Bazzite and Windows (because they have games that only windows can play). Most of the games I have are older so no incorporating anti-cheat anything at the kernel level. But I still had to turn off secure boot in order to get Bazzite up and running.
I wonder how long this will continue to be the case once they end support for windows 10 next year.
It turns out that steam os (Bazzite) has this already enabled. I just didn’t understand what I was looking at because windows displays battery level and setting differently and the battery always read at 80% on windows when plugged in vs not. On Bazzite it reads as “full” but the bar only shows at 80% which is hard to see on a small screen but easier to see when docked to the TV. Thanks for the pointers though.
Do you know if there is a way to have the battery only charge to 80%. I use it mostly docked to the TV and windows has this setting but I haven’t found it in Bazzite yet (only had Bazzite for like 10 hours).
I’m installing Bazzite on my Legion Go today, just curious how you like it, and if you ran into any problems.
In your vehicle perhaps this is true. In what I would wager is most vehicles there’s some modules that can die that will 100% make your car inoperable and if they do die you better have an o-scope and a diagram on the bench at home along with some very specific skills. Most people aren’t gonna be able to bring a module back, and even if they can they’ll still more than likely have to pay a shop to program it. Or clone it I guess.
The mod log of their community says otherwise. People keep repeating that Vegans are being attacked, and honestly it seems to go both ways from what I’ve seen. I was curious about the situation and the single comment in this thread that stood out initially I believe has since been deleted but was literally using the word “carnivore” as a slur.
Several people are making it vegans vs carnivores here regardless of what the post was actually intended to be about. I’m not sure (since I believe this post was intended to be informative) that this comments section should even exist. But since it does I think it probably should have been limited to comments specifically about the verdict and the changes and rather explicitly excluded the hot button issue that touched all this off.
I’ve blocked the vegan community here after a single visit there and haven’t looked back but this comment section is very much tame in comparison.
