Yeah, he might 100% support genocide via his cutout McGurk… Oh wait, Biden kept McGurk on staff from Trump’s first term and has been letting him guide policy this whole time…

God, that guy is the biggest asshole on the planet. The fact that he is a mod is such an indictment of Lemmy.world… I actually suspect they’re not even human, but a K-Hive bot from the 2020 primary they plugged ChatGPT into and it went mad.
It’s possible that it’s inferred off the digital footprint of you pirating the content, also. People freak out a lot about being listened to, but I’d argue that’s an inefficient spying mechanism they probably don’t lean heavily on if they can avoid it. We’re all living on platforms that are knowably spying on everything you click on or read or do online and feeding that into giant AI models with everything about you. Like just by watching a pirated video on a Google TV device, Google’s hashing that and phoning that data home, possibly even matching that to the specific file, and adding that to an ad profile.
Anything I need to actually write code on, Gnome, because I’m addicted to mac-style gesture controls, but hate the holier than thou design philosophy Jony Ive bullshit; anything casual, KDE; but I am planning to try out Cosmic on something soon
Don’t forget those lucky duckies deemed unworthy of even having the opportunity to compete in our meritocratic job market!
I’ve seen them work on Freetube in the past although idk how, and maybe they no longer do
The software is supposed to be free as in speech, not beer, ergo you can use it for whatever you want. If right out of the gate, GNU was like “you better contribute back if you use this!” nobody would use or contribute to it. All this does is produce drama and reduce use because of negative perceptions, it is bad for corporate adoption and adoption overall. If browbeating people like an ass worked we would live in a very different world. It does not.
This recent morality policing about contributions upstream is counterproductive to FOSS overall, and I honestly have to wonder if some group of FOSS averse corporations or a state actor is behind all the sudden drama.
I had my mom on Ubuntu for most of the 2010’s, and then the macbook it was on had catastrophic hard drive failure around the pandemic, but then I was like, you don’t work anymore, why exactly do you NEED a computer to begin with? So now she literally doesn’t have a computer and just lives mobile/tablet OS life, which in a nonprofessional context seems perfectly serviceable these days.
Polish could be a hard lift, especially for a VERY unpopular series… Maybe one of the saved Google searches on the megathread? Sometimes you can find VERY obscure things with that, but good luck having seeds by some miracle…
This! I imagine this guy has every paid service this could have been on, but then you need to sleuth what it’s on. Easier to go to a one stop shop, which with sports in the US is gonna be pirate because the deals for who airs what is insane. Even if it was on Fox, it would take non-0 effort to determine that, open your Hulu with live TV or YouTube TV, maybe it was only available live and you failed to fake DVR it…

I had issues getting kernel versions on Debian seeing hard drives back when it got bad in the 2010’s (which is why I switched to Fedora, which was what I used as my primary distro before Debian). For experimental purposes, I’d try something with bleeding edge driver support like Fedora, not even to install, just to see if it sees the drive. I’ve even seen issues with kernel v various hardware things on Ubuntu/Mint v Fedora. I am currently very mad at Fedora because 40 is ass, and I’m having PTSD about Debian getting bad (I do hear it gud now) so I’m in no way recommending Fedora rn, but it will see the hardware if it’s a nonproprietary driver newness issue
Arguably, Germany having the ability if they really wanted to, to timing attack you to deanonymize (at great cost) and potentially burning a mal-state * https cert to read contents, is a VASTLY different risk profile to a proprietary VPN actively hoovering in everything it can to put in ad profiles (which are also used by state actors)
I wonder if I’ll be able to do Alpha Centauri on Wayland now…
Yeah, my parents are getting to the nursing home stage and last week my dad tells me he just has this basically new old stock giant 2000’s Trinitron CRT that’s been basically unused and sitting in a cupboard for 20 years and I was like “Do not throw that away, I’ll put it in storage when you need it gone!” I live in a tiny apartment and thus have nowhere to put it, but I’d rather keep it in unused storage I’m paying for anyway or sell it online or something than reduce the net stock of high quality late CRTs out there. So many gems rotting in attics only to be thrown away when people move out there…
Asheville isn’t even prone to hurricanes, it’s inland in the mountains, people literally moved there from Louisiana and Florida on the premise it would be safer, but… Post-global warming you can even get cyclones on the great lakes (happened in '96) and the Southwest desert can get monsoons… Waterproof electronics bunkers, maybe?
Same, fucking catastrophe. I wonder how many “only 100 good condition of these are left in existence” things got destroyed. We need an Endangered Species Act for weird retro tech or something.
Yeah, but it was all Kazaa and Limewire life until like… 2006-ish
Yeah, the party that ran against W’s war crimes kept him twice. And they wonder why their voters are dispirited.
