Cars - For Car Enthusiasts@lemmy.world•Tesla Reportedly Has $800 Million Worth of Cybertrucks That Nobody WantsEnglish
71·6 months agoNo, we don’t want the article to make us read. We want the article to grab our heads, pull our ears out and talk the information directly into our faces. You know, “tell us.”

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•This happened to me at least 3 times.
13·6 months agoI haven’t watched much of Linus’s stuff, but his behavior in the three Linux challenge videos reminded me of the way Conan O’Brien would act with his staff. It struck me as an off-putting blend of arrogance, entitlement, and impatient senility.

531·6 months agoI just watched that Linus tech tips video where the guy uninstalls critical system components by accident while trying to install steam.
First the GUI for the package manager refuses to do it, then apt gives him a warning that he’s going to break his system. It even makes him type “Yes, do what I say!” but he’s too much of a clown to read the warning messages all over his screen. He even smirks at the camera about how silly it is that he would need to type such a thing before he proceeds to mess everything up.
People were trying to defend him, saying that the system shouldn’t have allowed him to do it or that the warnings should have been flashing and shooting rainbows out of the monitor or that a robot arm should have come out and started honking his clown nose to let him know he was doing something stupid.

3·6 months agoI get by pretty well just using my bank’s website. If you need the bank’s app for something like occasionally depositing checks, maybe you could keep your old phone in a drawer with your checkbook.

Do you have a home traction/decompression setup?
I’m sure this will draw some criticism but I’ve found duck.ai to be extremely helpful in troubleshooting minor issues with my Linux mint installation and recently with accessing and understanding SMART hard drive diagnostic data. It’s very helpful in figuring out which commands could be useful in the terminal and in understanding exactly what each terminal command is doing. Of course finding answers in forums and manuals is still relevant and important but as a beginner, this has been a fast and easy way to get advice.

Setting up a stupid question just to deliver a pun as a punchline is 100% a dad joke in my book.
I’m interested to hear what you think is required for a joke to be a dad joke.
Dad jokes are classically built around puns, as is the case here.
Setting up context doesn’t make this a knock knock joke.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Owing your home today is nearly impossible, but even if you did the ever increasing property taxes will bury you
11·8 months agoI agree with your sentement but sometimes places become gentrified and the original inhabitants can no longer afford to live there.
I’m not saying that it’s good or the way things should be but it is a reality.

86·8 months agoIf his math is right, and assuming that his property tax is about 1-2% of his home’s value per year, then the value of his home has increased about 15-30x the original value.
Its hard to be sympathetic.
Complains that bubble needs to pop. Is trying to sell a condo but has it priced too high to attract any buyers. Doesn’t lower price.
My dude, your desire for more money is the bubble that’s holding back the sale.
Your scenario is a microcosm of the whole market.
Fair enough.
Just be sure to keep lubricated while you permit all that sliding.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•the definitive proof that you weren't your parent's favorite
6·9 months agoThese are the kinds of highly plausible suppositions that I come here for.
Well, I don’t know much about the resolving power and maximum refresh rate of human vision but I’m guessing that the monitor they described is close to the limit.
The analogy refers to someone who has their thinking constrained to the current situation. They didn’t imagine that computers would become resource-intensive multimedia machines, just as this person suggests the cable wouldn’t be asked to carry more data than would be necessary for the 8k monitor.
I can imagine a scenario with dual high resolution screens, cameras and location tracking data passing through a single cable for something like a future VR headset. This may end up needing quite a bit more data throughput than the single monitor–and that isn’t even thinking outside the box. That’s still the current use case.
Do you have a crystal ball over there? I still think it’s a clever analogy.
640k of RAM should be enough for anybody

*after seeing some other comments, I want to clarify that I was being sarcastic.

That’s terrifying. Those stupid cops will kill your baby with a flashbang, shoot your dog and then murder you becauese you were holding the TV remote during their veggie raid.
Even if he really was growing some pot plants, it shouldn’t even be a big deal.
