18·9 months agoThey have old/orphaned dependencies on their machine. It’s hanging on a by thread. They have no idea the packages have disappeared years ago. The house of cards is a bit flip away from collapsing.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•If you're still on Reddit...
1·10 months agoThe chronically online incels look for things to mass report. It’s part of their ongoing campaign to shove the Overton Window far right.
Reddits content moderation are cubicle farm employees that barely look at content; nevermind actual context or intent. They’re clearing tickets to make quota. Right wingers exploit this to control discourse.
You can try doing it yourself. Look for frivolous things to report as offensive. You can get quite a bit of things removed.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Was anybody else just burned by the Tor Browser flatpak?
1·10 months agoI downloaded the tor browser binary which runs standalone. Why does it need to be a flatpak?
It did happen before the IPO. It’s been happening for several years. They have not been doing mass bans all at once. They’ve been surreptitiously taking down subreddits over the years. Mostly smaller ones that woujldn’t draw much attetnion. Looks like they went for the bigger targets now.
This isn’t a sudden change to ideologically align with the current US administration either. They have been at this for a long time.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Does Lemmy have less personal stories than Reddit because users are more wary of doxxing themselves?
3·1 year agoDear
Penthouse Forumreddit, I’m a 20 year-old college student and I never thought I’d be writing to thePenthouse Forumreddit, but…It’s the lowest common denominator of smut entertainment. The tech companies have managed to veil it all in prestige. It should be called gossip media or something.
Instead people think there’s some kind of real human connection. Some kind of deep discussions happening.

Memes@lemmy.ml•So, it turns out everyone could just talk with Chinese citizens this whole time
28·1 year agoYeah it worked for the first part of internet history. You talked to people from all over the world.
Now people use the internet like a carnival freak show exhibition. They don’t talk to others. They scroll to gawk at what oddities and tap the glass and jeer at the inhuman thing. Social media is designed this way.

Technology@lemmy.ml•New US Rule Aims to Block China’s Access to AI Chips and Models by Restricting the World
2·1 year agoThat’s why Chinas manufacturing is being targeted too. Otherwise they will inevitably develop the process for bleeding edge in house chip fabrication. Technology is only a matter of time. The US is trying to stall any way they can.
Videos anywhere from 10 to 60 minutes at an anxiety inducing attention disorder riddled pace. Yet all the information can usually be boiled down to a 5 to 10 minute read. It makes no sense. But actually it does because these “infuencers” are modern day infomercial salesmen. The point is to keep you watching so eventually you’ll be persuaded to purchase product. Unfortunately I think probably anyone under maybe 25-30 has no clue wtf an infomercial is so the analogy is lost on those who could use it the most.
