Unlike the poster above, I don’t think it’s necessarily wrong in theory to eat meat. It’s just how blatantly violent and inhumane the industry currently is, with minimal laws and even less actual oversight that I find abhorrent. Sure it might be better to be vegan to avoid just the possibility of contributing to animal abuse, but I have other issues to balance. So instead I try to find local eggs and other alternatives that are less likely to involve abuse.

I like how no one cares anymore about animal abuse as long as it’s not a dog or cat. I thought free range was supposed to be better than cage-free but turns out they both suck especially since the federal agencies responsible for investigating claims of animal abuse have been completely stripped of ANY power. I read an article a few months ago about a slaughterhouse near my hometown where an animal rights activist had taken an video showing cows being gutted WHILE STILL ALIVE AND CONSCIOUS because whatever the used to stun them wasn’t working properly. People just turn a blind eye to this and then go and mock vegans for whatever reason. I eat meat and I used to work with research animals where there was actual effort to reduce animal suffering. But clearly I need to be more selective about where I source my food. I don’t want to become a vegan but it’s becoming increasingly clear that given the state of regulations of the animal industry that is the only moral option (with maybe the exception of actually knowing and seeing where the product is coming from)

And not just a regular amicable breakup but one where you left after finding out the other person was actually a cold-hearted narcissist who only pretended to care about you and now they’re lying to everyone about how you were the horrible one. So it’s understandable to feel some schadenfreude for awhile.

I dont’t know what’s so confusing about this. Just sign up for an instance who’s accepting new users after researching about what an instance is and finding one that’s not overbooked and is accepting new users and then once you’re on, just find new communities but also change the settings to “all” and then start a new community when what you wanted wasn’t there except there’s some sort of format error when you do that but it’s ok because the community you wanted was there all along it just wasn’t searchable because no one from your instance had searched for it/joined it yet. It seems pretty self-explanatory to me. Just don’t talk about the linking.

Yes. I thought this was already the default “home page” to send people to. It might also be nice or have a quick sign up option where a new user is randomly assigned to an available instance instead of them having to go through and research which one they should join. This would keep things distributed (which is the whole point of using not-super-user-friendly lemmy) instead of everyone just signing up on the same instance.

And this is why politicians refuse ANY privacy regulations in the U.S. If big tech and their advertisers couldn’t use every means possible to collect every scrap of info to identify and analysis you, just think how upset they’d be.
