Something Arch or Fedora based depending on what you want to do. EndeavorOS, Garuda on the Arch side. Fedora is good too as-is, just make sure you add RPM Fusion, another package repo, because some stuff like NVIDIA drivers aren’t available. RPM also has a graphical setup option on their website.

Basically I would take a glance at the docs for Arch and Fedora and choose based off which one I like reading better.

What about trying a non-Debian distro that “just works?” The only main difference is package managers, and some files being in a different place (excluding home directory).

Reminds me of the old MSN web browser that would say this to you when you logged in.

I would just go with Debian personally since it’s not updated very often.

• You can add Firefox to startup applications several ways, such as startup apps GUI on any desktop environment.
• Most desktop environments have an “automatic login” option you can configure. You can also disable or remove the login manager
• You can configure some desktop environments (xfce I know for sure) to not launch the panel. Don’t forget to also look up how to disable your TTY hotkeys!
• Install the unattended-upgrades package and Debian/Ubuntu will update automatically. I hardly ever have to touch the updates on my Debian machines
• You can make Firefox’s config directory read only and it won’t be able to write to it

Nice to haves:

• Plymouth can be installed on Debian, and has a few themes that are simple spinners
• You can do this. Look up how to do the policies.json file. Since the Firefox directory will be read only, it won’t be able to be changed by the user
• I think you can still install add-ons like an ad blocker with policies.json, but not 100% dure
• Do a preseed install or similar https://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Preseed

Sync is closed source, while most of the other apps are open source. So you can’t see or modify the code of Sync.

Don’t forget you can also follow communities on other instances too! If you put something like !Videos@sopuli.xyz into your search box (it can be buggy sometimes, give it a few minutes and retry). It should also already show up if someone else did that already.

I’ve been looking networking/hosting types of communities. So far I’ve found selfhosted@lemmy.world, datahoarder@lemmy.ml, sysadmin@lemmy.ml. Not sure about Judo but don’t forget you can always create a community!

Yup. Then it doesn’t hurt the asshole because they can just move to a different instance with like-minded people, which is not a problem because of blocking instances!

Looks like they just merged the change in a few hours ago. Unfortunately it wasn’t released in 0.17.4, so it’ll probably be in the next release either 0.18.0 or 0.17.5

Looks like it might be a bug. In Firefox, I’m seeing “No video with supported format and MIME type found” but if I right-click and open in a new tab, it works.
