Here’s the quote the article is about:
When asked about a potential sedan, Farley said: “Never say never. The sedan market is very vibrant. It’s not that there isn’t a market there. It’s just we couldn’t find a way to compete and be profitable. Well, we may find a way to do that.”
Saved you a click.
Ford has done everything it can to avoid progress and deserves its fate.
Huge trucks to avoid environmental goals, worst EV strategy of all, etc.
Fuck Ford.
Ford can fuck off. After hosting Trump and bending the knee to him.
“Ya know the Ford _____ is one our best selling vehicles, what should we do with it?”
- Escort
- Focus
- Taurus
CEO: “Cancel it.”
He’s to busy hanging out with pedophile protectors to listen to customers lol.
they can’t charge $70,000 for those though!
I think a fairly basic EV Focus platform would absolutely kill it right now. Ford has the Eluminator motor as a crate engine. Just throw enough battery in there to do 190 miles and people would go nuts.
To be fair it was always the f150 and their truck lines they do gang busters with, but I want small cars not trucks too
In the US for sure, in Europe Focus/Fiesta/Mondeo were everywhere. I’d have thrown money at them if they still made a Mondeo estate, as it stands it’ll be VAG because that’s what exists.
I sold my Fiesta before a cross-country move and if I’d known I was never going to be able to get a small car again I would have paid to have it shipped…
“We tried everything short of actually listening to our customers, where could we have gone wrong??”
I want a new Focus ST and a 2-door Maverick, but they aren’t making much I want now. Just the Mustang.
A reasonably priced Taurus EV would kill it. Sadly, there’s little chance they’ll make one.
About a month ago Forrest Auto Reviews on YouTube did an interview with the Ford CEO who expressed interest in a “rear wheel drive, EV, affordable performance sedan.” I think it sounds cool, but I guess we’ll have to wait to see if it actually goes anywhere
Sounds like the next model in the Mustang brand group
Just bring back the 1g Taurus.
All we wanted was the Falcon. Dammit.
Honestly that was their biggest mistake in many years.
Ford and GM.
Use Australia as the “Sedan” makers, Europe for the small cars and America for the trucks and just build models that are worldwide compliant. For those 3 markets to all be building a similar large sedan is idiocy.
The Pinto is their top priority.
Going after that domestic terrorism market, i see.
Ha, my older sister had a Falcon back in the mid-80s, cool little powder blue car.
Wow, I’m out of touch. Do they really not make any sedans??
The only car left is the Mustang and that’s a couple/convertible. The Fusion and the Focus have been dropped and not replaced. The rest are crossovers or trucks or vans.
Edit: Fiesta too
Fiesta too.
Ah shoot. Couldn’t remember if there was a third.
I wasn’t sure if they sold them in the US. Nice, reliable decent cars, usually had a bonkers edition too like the RS or ST lines. Depressing, I’m in the market for what is functionally a Mondeo (Fusion) estate and there’s absolutely nothing that fits the bill as well as it would have.
The USDM Fiesta (and Focus) were plagued with automatic transmission problems. Manuals are very rare, but stout in any trim. The auto, specifically, was the dual clutch type. The primary issue was clutch failure, possibly from American drivers constantly creeping forward in traffic and burning them down. Supposedly, driving them with more a manual-transmission mindset improved longevity. But even still, the failures weren’t really thaaaat frequent.
But, given US roads, they were largely consider kids’ cars and city cars, both being relatively small sales demographics. The Fusion (Mondeo) was the standard sedan. No wagon in North America.
I was seriously considering a FiST(Fiesta ST) until I learned that the new generation wasn’t going to come to the US. They sold the first Gen for a couple more years before killing it off even though the 2nd gen’s were available in Europe the whole time. Blamed it on ‘lack of interest’ Well yeah, you make a better version and you aren’t given it to us. Why would I buy the old one?…at no discount.
In NA they left the car market aside from the Mustang.
A lot of companies were getting rid of all models that were not suvs or trucks. Dumbest thing ever. Small cars ftw
Only rubes drive American cars.
That’s why all of my cars were designed somewhere else.
