It actually makes sense to not notice them because they are off the grid in the true sense, no such person would announce their current statr on social media.

Don’t they just want to keep it to themselves? That’s what it’d look like

It frustrates me that the independent, “keep to myself and don’t trust the government” personalities love gas/oil and not solar panels/batteries. Can’t remember a time we invented a war in the Middle East to steal their sunlight.

I’ve been in the Middle East recently and let me tell you - they are FAR ahead of the West in terms of solar and geothermal. They know what’s up (the end of oil and climate catastrophe) and they are moving to solar and geothermal FAST. Don’t get me wrong they are still car dependent, and they will still milk oil for everything it’s worth, but solar and geothermal (for cooling in their case) is everywhere on the Arabian peninsula. Just saying.

Isn’t it some form of renewables? Growing food with the sun.

Though I prefer to just water edible wild stuff occasionally instead of putting to much energy in growing it intentionally.

Have you ever tried growing… anything? Do you have any idea what that’s like without chemical pesticides and fertilizers?

There’s a reason agriculture used to occupy most of people’s time.

We should have reserved fossil fuels for medicine, chemical, and other uses. Now we are screwed.

We have grown potatoes, and they did fine, until some stupid new moth made holes in like 2/3 of our potatoes.

We used fertilizer and pesticide pellets when planting. I don’t know much, I was not the one doing the planning.

              without chemical pesticides and fertilizers

Yes, we have some plants in our garden. But my mom does the planting and weed control.

What I’m referencing is that I’m eating wild strawberries, which I just water. It’s only a few here and there, but the big intentionally grown strawberries were mostly eaten by snails, despite my mom trying to kill them with snail pellets.

I also harvest wild oregano and spearmint, that all grows well.

The rest, which was planted, requires a lot of watering. Though that’s a good opportunity for me to get outside. But on a big field that would take a lot longer and be more annoying. Unless it’s raining that’s certainly something you have to do every day.

I’m not sure if my mom used some fertilizer, she sometimes does. But our main fertilizer is compost, though that’s definitely a lot of work and won’t scale neither.

But back to renewables… that should still improve the situation, since it allows at least automated irrigation and such. For big fields plowing doesn’t work with electric tractors yet afaik

I guess most of historical civilizations heard of renewables. Why didn’t they have intercontinental flights and chemical fertilizers with a population of 8 billion?

Do you honestly think we’re going to wave a magic wand and pooff, same lifestyle but with sunshine?

What’s coming in the next 50 years will make the 21st century so far look like a picnic in the park.

Some of them. I had a red hat when trump first dropped, and I stopped wearing it after the second guy told me he almost kicked my ass for wearing it.

It’s a red front with a white mesh back and is from a local food company, and it’s like 20yr old, yet still it was close enough I had to retire it. I’d be worried to wear one even closer to the real one here tbh, likely someone doesn’t read it and just goes off at it by mistake.

Because for privileged people it is just “oh ha ha, that person is an asshole”

For a lot of folk? It is a sign that someone actively wants you dead or enslaved and doesn’t care who knows it.

Or, in this case, it shows that they care so little about the actual victims that they think it is Ironic to wear a nazi uniform around so long as they flip the skulls upside down.

If this triggers someone’s PTSD going outside will trigger them a bunch no matter what. Like respect is important but at some point you gotta factor in other interests like artistic/political expression. If you constantly baby people with that kind of mental illness they won’t ever get better. And I say this as someone who has been diagnosed with PTSD.

The solution to this mess is not simple, but it will not be to hide things that may offend people, to stick heads into sand or control speech.

The very idea that someone needs to follow a “non-offensive” guide in political commentary is very much a part of how the us is in the mess it is.

The original point of BLM was…one group of people shouting stop killing their own to a nation that was oblivious and/or not caring. Arguing that other people are also dying kind of misses the point and helps to hide what BLM was trying to show.

      let me explain.

if black lives don’t matter then no lives matter because when we allow one of us to be oppressed we are all oppressed.

this is why black lives matter.

the movement is literally calling out the violence and oppression that our government and society has manufactured against minorities and is now being weaponized against all of us.
